COURSE OVERVIEW
This course is geared to Diplomates and Candidates who wish to increase their knowledge and expertise in abdominal ultrasound. Successful participants will have had previous introductory ultrasound experience, and are looking to take their skills to an advanced level. Through the use of lecture and hands-on ultrasound wet labs, participants will be given instruction on normal abdominal ultrasound anatomy and appearance, as well as the appearance of disease in the liver, spleen, kidneys, bladder, adrenal glands, pancreas, gallbladder, and GI tract. Laboratories will be designed to maximize the scanning time in small group environments guided by Diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Radiology.
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
• Create and maintain the optimal image on your ultrasound machine in dogs and cats
• Understand probe selection
• Recognize normal and abnormal appearance of abdominal organs, including liver, spleen, kidneys, bladder, GI tract, pancreas, adrenal glands, and abdominal lymph nodes
• Understand use of different scanning approaches, including intercostal windows, to achieve a comprehensive abdominal study
• Identify major abdominal vasculature, and use techniques such as Doppler to define normal and abnormal vasculature
• Recognize normal and abnormal appearance in the cervical region
• Recognize normal and abnormal appearance of thoracic disease
• Recognize normal and abnormal appearance of the eyes
• Understand and perform ultrasound guided aspirates and biopsy techniques
RACE Application Status:
This program will be submitted for 24.00 hours of live, seminar/lecture and lab medical continuing education credit in jurisdictions which recognize AAVSB RACE-approval.
