COURSE OVERVIEW

This 2.5-day intensive lecture and lab course will cover diagnostics and their interpretation, review of specific diseases, pharmacology of cardiac drugs, and treatment of arrhythmias.  Interactive case-based discussions will also occur.  Lab sessions will include echo stations, resting ECG interpretation stations, an exercising ECG interpretation station, a 2D and M-mode measurement station, a Doppler interpretation station (including TDI) and a case-based station.

Topics Covered:
•    Review of degenerative valve disease, congenital heart disease, and myocardial disease
•    Echocardiographic Techniques including measurements (2D, M-mode and Doppler), Tissue Doppler Imaging and Speckle Tracking
•    Techniques for Evaluation of the Right Heart and the Critically Ill Patient
•    Arrhythmia Diagnosis and Treatment (Tachyarrhythmias and Bradyarrhythmias) at Rest and During Exercise
•    Approach to Solving the Puzzle of Congenital Cardiac Disease
•    Cardiac Pharmacology

Upon successful completion of the course, participants should be able to:
•    Perform and interpret abnormal echocardiographic studies
•    Make M-Mode, 2D and Doppler measurements
•    Interpret resting and exercising arrhythmias and know when and what treatment is indicated
•    Understand the significance of abnormal echocardiographic findings (how performance, prospective purchase and insurance is impacted)

COVID-19 Protocol:
Proof of full vaccination status* is required for participation in the course.

*Fully vaccinated status is defined as having received the last required dose of a CDC or WHO recognized COVID-19 vaccine at least 2 weeks before the start date of the course.
