Course Overview: Advanced continuing education course designed for boarded small animal internists and criticalists, with a focus on the initial assessment and treatment of dogs and cats with urgent respiratory disease. The focus will be on a practical approach to common emergency respiratory presentations. The course will consist of a mix of didactic lectures, case-based presentations, and expert group discussions.
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
- Develop a rational diagnostic approach, using modalities such as imaging, blood gas analysis, and cytology to common emergency respiratory cases.
- Develop a concrete and effective emergency management plan for the common respiratory emergencies.
- Recognize areas of controversy and debate regarding the handling of emergency cases, and recognize that there may be multiple different viable strategies for dealing with the same patient.
