Course Overview: Advanced continuing education course designed for boarded small animal internists and criticalists, with a focus on the initial assessment and treatment of dogs and cats with urgent respiratory disease. The focus will be on a practical approach to common emergency respiratory presentations. The course will consist of a mix of didactic lectures, case-based presentations, and expert group discussions.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

1. Develop a rational diagnostic approach, using modalities such as imaging, blood gas analysis, and cytology to common emergency respiratory cases.
2. Develop a concrete and effective emergency management plan for the common respiratory emergencies.
3. Recognize areas of controversy and debate regarding the handling of emergency cases, and recognize that there may be multiple different viable strategies for dealing with the same patient.
