Course Overview:
This 2-day course will explore the gastrointestinal microbiome with a focus on diagnostics and therapeutic interventions. Many topics will be presented by a duo of renowned experts and all sessions will present evidence-based research along with clinical applications. Throughout the course, instructors will discuss the effects of fiber, probiotics and antibiotics on the microbiome and examine the utility of fecal microbiota transplants.
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
- Interpret fiber information on nutrition labels and discuss how dietary fiber can be used therapeutically
- Explain the concept of digestibility and discuss how it affects clinical decision making for dogs or cats with gastrointestinal disease
- Recognize the impact of enteral antimicrobial therapy and discuss steps to restore a normal microbiome
- Develop a strategy for safe and effective fecal microbiota transplantation
- Explain the concepts of microbial diversity and richness in the context of health and disease
RACE Application Status:
With the course being offered as a live virtual event and through on demand recordings from the live event, two types of RACE CE credit will be submitted in jurisdictions which recognize AAVSB RACE-approval.
On-demand course registration: This program has been approved for 13 hours of Anytime, Non-Interactive-distance continuing education credit in jurisdictions which recognize AAVSB RACE-approval. Participants will be responsible for ensuring they do not claim dual credit for the same session presented live and available on demand.
