COURSE OVERVIEW

This 3.5-day course will provide Candidates with advanced training in equine gastrointestinal, hepatic, neurologic, cardiac, endocrine, and urinary tract disorders. This Boot Camp is designed to support the training that residents receive at their institutions by providing an intensive experience with experts in these fields. The course will have a significant hands-on laboratory component while also providing attendees with an opportunity to network with other residents.

Upon successful completion of the course, Candidates will be able to:

  • Perform and interpret equine thoracic and abdominal ultrasonography
  • Perform and interpret equine liver biopsy
  • Perform and interpret equine gastroscopy and explain the diagnostic plan and treatment options for equine gastric ulcers, colonic ulcers, enterocolitis, and IBD
  • Perform and interpret an advanced examination of the equine neurologic system
  • Perform equine CSF collection via AO, AA or C1C2, and LS techniques and interpret results
  • Perform equine cervical imaging including myelography and interpret results
  • Perform and interpret an advanced equine cardiac examination, including electrocardiography and echocardiography
  • Perform mare and gelding cystoscopy, urine collection from the bladder and ureters, and interpret urinalysis
  • Perform and interpret renal biopsy
  • Perform an equine podiatric examination, including digital venography
  • Perform a cytologic evaluation of equine bone marrow and CSF
  • Interpret diagnostic testing for equine endocrine disease

RACE
This program will be submitted (but not yet approved) for 27.5 hours of live, seminar/lecture and lab medical continuing education credit in jurisdictions which recognize AAVSB RACE-approval.
