COURSE OVERVIEW

Taught by world renowned experts in equine neurology, this 2.5-day intensive course will cover current approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of equine neurologic disease, with access to real-world case examples in the hands-on labs.

Lectures will focus on an in-depth review of the neurologic exam, electrodiagnostics, advanced imaging of the brain and cervical spine and diseases including cervical vertebral stenotic myelopathy, equine degenerative myelopathy, neuroborreliosis, seizure disorders, sleep disorders, and equine protozoal myeloencephalopathy. Lab sessions will focus on the comprehensive neurological examination, image interpretation, ultrasound and intraarticular injections of the facet joints, rehabilitation modalities and neuropathology.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  1. Localize neurologic lesions in complex cases.
  2. Use ultrasound to identify pathology in the cervical articular facet joints and to guide intraarticular injection.
  3. Interpret an EEG and EMG trace.
  4. Prescribe current treatment and preventive therapy for EPM.
  5. Identify specific anatomical sites in the brain and/or spinal cord affected by certain diseases.

RACE Application Status:
This program will be submitted (but is not yet approved) for 22.75 hours of live, seminar/lecture and lab medical continuing education credit in jurisdictions which recognize AAVSB RACE-approval.
