COURSE OVERVIEW
This 2.5-day intensive lecture and lab course will cover diagnostics and their interpretation, review of specific diseases, treatment of congestive heart failure, and treatment of arrhythmias. Lab sessions will include echo stations, ECG interpretation stations, a Kubios station, an echo station focusing on other related cardiac structures, a diastolic dysfunction station (including TDI), systolic dysfunction/4D station and an anatomy station.
Topics Covered:
The mitral valve in depth
- Echocardiographic techniques including measurements (2D, M-mode and Doppler), Tissue Doppler Imaging (SDI) and Speckle Tracking
- Systolic and diastolic dysfunction
- Supraventricular arrhythmias, bypass tracts and ventricular arrhythmias
- Myocardial injury in the hospitalized patient and the use of cTnI
- Congestive heart failure
- The Friesian heart
- Insulin resistance and the heart
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Perform a thorough echocardiographic evaluation of the mitral valve
- Recognize all cardiac structures on the echocardiogram
- Make M-Mode, 2D and Doppler measurements and relate to breed/size specific reference values
- Obtain blood pressure measurements and recognize when treatment is indicated
- Recognize systolic and diastolic dysfunction (how performance, prospective purchase and insurance may be impacted)
- Obtain new 12 lead ECG and interpret arrhythmias
- Know how to import ECGs into Kubios for analysis
- Treat patients with congestive heart failure
RACE Application Status:
This program will be submitted (but is not yet approved) for 22.75 hours of live, seminar/lecture and lab medical continuing education credit in jurisdictions which recognize AAVSB RACE-approval.
Well-Being Update:
While there are currently no Well-Being protocols in place, in the event protocols are needed, all attendees will be asked to participate in and abide by all protocols implemented on-site for the event. We will continue to closely monitor all conditions related to COVID-19 between now and the start of the event and reserve the right to modify health screening protocols in our sole discretion. We will inform you of any such changes and as a condition of participation you would agree to follow these protocols.
