COURSE OVERVIEW
This 3.5-day course will provide Candidates with advanced training in equine guttural pouch, gastric, ophthalmic, muscular, neurologic, endocrine, and theriogenology disorders, as well as ruminant forestomach and urinary tract disorders. Equine fluid therapy, farm animal antimicrobial use, and pig restraint and blood collection will also be discussed. Technical large animal emergency rescue (TLAER) training will be discussed and demonstrated. This boot camp is designed to support the training that residents receive at their institutions by providing an intensive experience with experts in these fields. The course will have a significant hands-on laboratory component while also providing attendees with an opportunity to network with other residents.

Upon successful completion of the course, Candidates will be able to:
- Perform and interpret equine guttural pouch endoscopy
- Perform and interpret equine gastroscopy and explain the diagnostic plan and treatment options for EGSD and EGGD
- Perform equine ophthalmic examination and place subpalpebral lavage system
- Perform equine muscle biopsy
- Perform and interpret an equine neurologic examination
- Perform equine CSF collection via AO, C1-C2, or LS techniques and interpret results
- Perform equine lateral thoracic vein over-the-wire catheter placement
- Interpret diagnostic testing for equine endocrine disease
- Measure CTUP in pregnant mare
- Perform and interpret transrectal and transabdominal ultrasound in pregnant mare
- Collect blood from pet pig
- Perform and interpret transabdominal ultrasound in ruminant
- Remove urethral process in small ruminant
- Perform orgastric intubation on bovid and assess rumen fluid
- Apply TLAER principles to safely transport recumbent horse
- Understand farm animal antimicrobial use laws and ELDU
RACE
This program will be submitted (but not yet approved) for 26.75 hours of live, seminar/lecture and lab medical continuing education credit in jurisdictions which recognize AAVSB RACE-approval.
